Description
Job Summary
Under limited supervision, performs advanced professional work involving civil and construction engineering principles, with a focus on Capital Improvement projects and computer-aided drafting and design (CADD). Responsible for preparing detailed engineering drawings, maintaining CADD standards, supporting project design and coordination, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. Provides technical expertise, quality control, and training support related to drafting systems and engineering design.
Examples of Duties
Develops and maintains project drawings using AutoCAD and manages drawing libraries
Assists engineers with design development and reviews CAD drawings from consultants
Prepares preliminary and final construction drawings and plans
Produces maps, graphics, and presentations using drafting software
Coordinates drafting and engineering functions across departments
Applies knowledge of civil engineering, surveying, and construction specifications
Maintains and updates Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) database
Serves as liaison with consultants regarding CADD drawings
Attends public meetings, hearings, and project conferences
Designs civil, structural, architectural, and MEP construction drawings
Conducts site inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications
Performs engineering calculations and technical analysis
Ensures compliance with applicable laws, policies, and regulations
Provides training and technical support on AutoCAD and CADD systems
Coordinates project activities with departments, agencies, and utilities
Conducts quality control reviews of CADD drawings
Prepares reports, exhibits, and documentation for decision-making processes
Assists with administrative tasks including permits, bid packages, and document control
Maintains project documentation and tracking systems
Communicates with stakeholders including engineers, contractors, agencies, and the public
Operates standard office and technical equipment
Performs related duties as required
Requirements
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or related field
Minimum three (3) years of experience in CADD systems or related field
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Valid driver’s license required
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred
Required Certifications (Within 6 Months)
Local Agency Program (LAP) Certification
FDOT Earthwork Construction Inspection Level 1
FDOT Concrete Field Specifications
FDOT Final Estimates Level 1
FDOT Asphalt Paving Level 1
FDOT Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic Certification
FDEP Stormwater Management Inspector Certification
Required Certifications (Within 1 Year)
FDOT Earthwork Construction Inspection Level 2
FDOT Final Estimates Level 2
FDOT Asphalt Paving Level 2
FDOT Advanced Maintenance of Traffic Certification
FDOT QC Manager Certification
LBR Technician Certification
Construction Professional Certification
OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification
Autodesk Certified Professional (Revit – Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical)
Autodesk Certified Professional (AutoCAD)
Autodesk Certified Professional (Civil 3D)
Supplemental Information
