Job Summary
The IT Category Manager is responsible for managing strategic sourcing, contract negotiations, vendor management, and procurement activities related to IT products and services within a healthcare environment. This role supports technology-related categories including cloud services, hardware, software, SaaS platforms, licensing, and professional services. The position focuses on developing sourcing strategies, improving operational efficiency, reducing costs, and supporting organizational technology initiatives through effective supply chain management and vendor partnerships.
The IT Category Manager works closely with internal stakeholders to analyze business needs, create sourcing strategies, manage RFP/RFI processes, negotiate contracts, and oversee supplier performance. The role also supports project coordination, reporting, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure successful execution of supply chain and IT procurement initiatives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Manage end-to-end sourcing and contract management activities for IT-related categories.
Develop sourcing strategies that balance cost, quality, and operational outcomes.
Conduct market research, benchmarking, spend analysis, and supplier evaluations.
Create and manage RFP/RFI documents and procurement processes.
Lead vendor negotiations, contract development, and supplier relationship management.
Identify cost-saving and operational improvement opportunities.
Analyze business and technical requirements for procurement initiatives.
Support strategic and operational business activities through data analysis and reporting.
Prepare presentations and communicate sourcing initiatives to leadership teams.
Maintain project documentation, reports, and communication plans.
Coordinate multiple projects across departments and ensure timely completion.
Ensure compliance with organizational procedures, procurement standards, and project plans.
Support department performance improvement initiatives and operational goals.
Collaborate with clinicians, leadership teams, and internal departments to support procurement activities.
Provide guidance and support regarding vendor performance, contract deliverables, and sourcing processes.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements / Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Business Administration, or related field required.
Master’s degree in Business Administration or Healthcare Administration preferred.
Minimum 3 years of contract management or sourcing experience with focus on IT procurement.
Strong knowledge of IT sourcing categories including cloud services, software, hardware, SaaS, licensing, and professional services.
Experience with vendor management, contract negotiations, and procurement processes.
Knowledge of supply chain management, ERP systems, contract management software, and inventory systems.
Understanding of accounting principles, budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis.
Strong analytical, planning, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and standard business software applications.
Experience building cross-functional relationships and supporting consensus-driven initiatives.
